Kate began studying outdoor recreation in 2004 and felt the value of experiential education while spending time with others in wild places. These experiences and interactions impacted her life, creating a place for self-discovery and giving her an appreciation for the natural world. Through her adventures in nature she has gained new perspectives on her daily existence. Her intention is to provide individuals with the opportunity to explore and enjoy the vibrant world within and around us. Connect with the simplicity of your own true nature and the inherent joy of being by bridging the gap between nature and yourself, finding expansion in the mind and body.

This workshop will move beyond the asanas, although it will include a physical practice. We will explore the principles of Yin Yoga, the resonance, intention and transformation of Qi, and the attributes of Taoist Meridian System and the Tantric Chakra System. Additionally, we’ll delve into examining the meridian channels and energy centers in Yin Yoga asana’s, as well as practicing mindfulness and loving kindness in meditation. Lastly we’ll focus on the intersection of Yin Yoga and human anatomy, discussing how the practice revitalizes the connective tissue and restores the curvature of the sacrum and lumbar spine, explaining the ways that tension and compression restrict range of motion, and review the natural range of movement in the hips and spine. Yin Yoga highlights individual physical differences make each person’s practice very unique. Kate hopes this workshop will bring attention and breath to any aspect of yourself, emotional, energetic, or physical, and will create space for change. Call Samadhi to reserve your space today!

The practice of Yin Yoga deals with the more yin parts of our body, those that lie closest to our core, generally the bones and connective tissue, rather than the muscles, which are the more yang parts of our bodies. Yin addresses our connective tissue needs and helps us to sit in the pure presence of awareness during our asana practice. All asanas are practiced on the floor and held for an extended period of time, ranging anywhere from three to five to eight or more minutes. This extension of time allows us to relax the muscles around the areas we’re working, allowing the connective tissue to be gently and safely maintained.
The practice of Yin Yoga is important for the following reasons:
  • It helps balance the yin and yang aspects of the self.
  • It encourages the increased flow of qi or prana, primarily in the six meridians of the body that pass through the areas of the hips.
  • It helps maintain the health of the connective tissue.
  • It helps us develop a mindful meditation practice.

The Sangre De Cristo Mountains are spectacular, even by Colorado standards. While only five miles wide in some places, from the valley floor this mountain range ascends 7,000 feet skyward with eight summits topping 14,000 feet. As a group, we will not be scrambling to any of the fourteeners, but the scenic payoffs of the distinctive landscape are still worth it. Known for the red hues that emerge on the range's peaks at sunrise and sunset, the daylight offers up views that contrast with the peaks--the green, wavy ranchland of the Wet Mountain Valley, broken only by country roads and homesteads. We'll find peace, solitude and some of the most beautiful scenery Colorado has to offer surrounded by  alpine lakes and waterfalls nestled in lush green trails.

The Manitou Springs Incline, located at the base of Pikes Peak, is a trail carved up the mountain and lined with railroad ties. The Incline is known for it’s most basic but punishing workout: Man versus Hill. The hike itself is only 3.25 miles, but the vertical gain of 2,100 feet makes this a difficult hike and is Kate’s absolute favorite. The Incline is a lot like life, just when you think you’ve figured it out, there’s always another lesson, no matter the strategy or number of attempts. The only way to pair this non-stop, survival mode climb where you use every muscle in your body is with Yin Yoga, where we create a bridge to living mindfully in meditation. Hiking the incline comes down to how much you want it, honoring your resolution and commitment to yourself no matter what urges arise in the mind, no matter what sensations arise in the body, just like in Yin Yoga.
Once we’ve arrived atop the Incline, Kate will lead a guided meditation and Yin Yoga class with a panoramic view, overlooking the playful city of Manitou Springs. Tune into your senses, allow yourself to find strength and stillness connecting your breath with the earth in Kate’s favorite funky Colorado town.

Please eat breakfast before you arrive and bring money for lunch in town. It's approximately a 90minute drive one way, so bring snacks if you'd like.

Transportation is not included, however we will try to carpool amongst the group. Please do not count on being back in Denver for afternoon/evening plans; time and length of trip varies and Kate cannot guarantee a set return time.
